After offering up no new releases in 2014, Pixar returns with Inside Out, a unique flick that takes place inside the mind of an 11-year-old girl. Will the non-franchise effort connect with audiences during a crowded summer? BoxOffice takes a closer look at the film's commercial prospects.

Inside Out
(Disney/Pixar)

PROS:

- Reactions to the screening at CinemaCon were very encouraging.
- Mainstream trust for the Pixar brand is incredibly high.
- The voice cast, which includes Amy Poehler and Mindy Kaling, will help draw in key female demos.
-
Disney is already putting a considerable amount of marketing muscle behind it.

CONS:

- Non-franchise animated flicks have a spotty track record.
- It may be hard for the film to stand out during a summer that's highly competitive.
- Some people are concerned that the film will appeal more to parents than young children.
